Eastside Leaf June
Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM (PDT)
Salishan 7 a Case Study
Join us this month for a presentation from the team behind the successful completion of the first federal Hope VI project to achieve LEED for Homes platinum rating.
91 Homes in the Tacoma Housing Authority’s redevelopment are Certified Northwest Energy Star, LEED for HOMES Platinum, and Built Green 4 Star. Although the project had many achievements, even more remarkable were the features and enhancements added (bio-swales, air barrier system, building performance and much more), as well as, the tactics and techniques employed such as the use of thermal imagery and blower door technology within the construction sequence. Ultimately, the energy savings equated to removing at least 27 homes from Tacoma’s electrical grid. But the most remarkable achievement was completing this project and providing highly energy efficient and healthy homes to those who can least afford it, within a very tight and affordable budget.
The ELeaf is proud to host Ron Hopper and Derek Johnson with Walsh Construction and Roberta Schur with Tacoma Housing Authority to discuss highlights from this cutting edge project. The panel will address issues such as: occupant challenges, building envelope durability and energy considerations, as well as costs and savings.
We hope you will join us!
